Healthcare calls on behalf of your GP practice

Did you get a call from 0330 027 1235?

Yes, this is a real number. It is used by clinical pharmacists and other healthcare professionals contacting patients on behalf of GP practices, as part of your NHS care. There is nothing to pay.

About these calls

Your GP practice has asked a clinical pharmacy team to contact some of its patients. Most calls are about medicines, or about a review the practice would otherwise have to fit into an appointment.

This is part of your NHS care. There is nothing to pay, and nothing you need to do to arrange it.

Your practice remains responsible for your care and for your records, and notes from the call go back into your GP record.

Why we may have called you

You may have been contacted about:

  • your medicines or prescriptions
  • a medication review
  • a clinical follow-up
  • information requested by your GP practice

Not sure the call was genuine?

You can end the call and contact your GP practice using its usual published telephone number to confirm that someone has been asked to contact you.

Please do not use a number given to you during the call. Look it up yourself, or use the number printed on your repeat prescription slip.

You will never be penalised for hanging up to check.

We will never ask you for

  • your bank details, card number, or any payment
  • a password, PIN or one-time security code
  • access to your computer, phone or online banking
  • your NHS number to “confirm who you are” before we have identified ourselves and named your GP practice

If someone calling from this number asks for any of these, please hang up and report it to Action Fraud on 0300 123 2040.

Questions people ask us

Checking that this number is genuine

Some people look this number up to find out whether 0330 027 1235 is a scam. It is not. It is a real number, used by clinical pharmacists calling patients on behalf of their GP practice.

You should not take a website's word for that, though, including this one. Ring your own GP practice on its usual published number and ask whether someone has been asked to contact you. That check works whoever is calling, which is exactly why it is the one worth doing.

Your phone may show the number as 03300271235 or +44 330 027 1235. Those are the same number written differently.

What this costs, and how your information is used

There is nothing to pay. This is part of your NHS care, and your GP practice has arranged it.

Your information is never sold, never used for marketing, and never shared with anyone outside your care. We see only what your practice has asked us to work on, and only for patients at practices we are working with.

Recording of calls

Calls between you and a clinician are recorded, so that the safety and quality of the advice can be checked and so there is a record of what was agreed.

You may not be told this during the call, which is why it is here.

Recordings are kept for one year and are then deleted. They are never used for marketing and are never sold.

You can ask for a copy of a recording of your own call, or ask us to delete it. Our privacy notice explains how.

Who we are, and how we work with the NHS

We work for the NHS rather than being part of it.

We are a clinical pharmacy service that works for GP practices under NHS arrangements, much as a practice might use a visiting physiotherapist or an out-of-hours service. The care itself is NHS care, arranged and overseen by your practice, and free at the point of use.

We are not an NHS body in our own right, and we are not your GP practice.

Why your practice asked us to call

Practices ask clinical pharmacists to carry out work such as medication reviews so that appointments stay free for other care. Your practice knows we are contacting you, and the notes go back into your GP record.

Where your contact details came from

From the contact details your GP practice holds for you. We only see the records of patients at practices we are working with, and only for the purpose that practice has asked us to carry out.

Our privacy notice explains this in full.

If you would prefer not to be called

Tell the clinician during the call, or tell your GP practice. Your practice will record it and we will stop.

Ringing this number back will not work for that: it plays a recorded message and cannot take a request.

If a call does not seem right

If you believe a call was not genuine, report it to Action Fraud on 0300 123 2040 or at actionfraud.police.uk. You can forward suspicious text messages to 7726, free of charge.

In Scotland, report it to Police Scotland on 101.

If you ring this number back

You will hear a recorded message. It cannot take a message or put you through to anyone.

To check that a call was genuine, or to ask us not to call again, please contact your GP practice on its usual published number. Your practice can confirm it and pass on your request.
