Our commitment
People reach this website after an unexpected call about their health. Many of them are older, and a good number use larger text, a screen reader, high contrast, or a keyboard rather than a mouse. This site is built for that from the start, not adjusted for it afterwards.
We aim to meet WCAG 2.2 Level AA, the international accessibility standard, across the whole site.
What we have done
- Every colour is measured, not guessed. Each text and background pairing is checked against WCAG 2.2 by an automated test that runs before any change ships. Two colours were changed because that test failed them.
- Body text is set at 19 pixels, and the page reflows down to a 320-pixel-wide screen and up to 400% zoom without anything being cut off or requiring sideways scrolling.
- Everything works with a keyboard alone. Focus is always visible, with a yellow highlight and a solid dark underline.
- The whole page works with JavaScript turned off, other than the “your area” panel, which is not needed to understand anything.
- Windows High Contrast mode is supported explicitly. The red warning card and the blue advice card keep distinct borders when custom colours are removed, so they cannot be confused with each other.
- Colour is never the only signal. Every coloured card also has a heading that says what it is.
- Nothing moves on its own. There is no animation, no carousel, no auto-playing media and no time limit. The one small transition on the question expander is switched off for anyone whose device asks for reduced motion.
- Buttons and the call action are at least 48 pixels high, and navigation and footer links clear the 24-pixel WCAG 2.2 minimum. Links inside a sentence use the standard exception for inline text.
- Headings, landmarks and lists are real HTML. A screen reader can navigate the page by heading, and the expandable questions use the browser's own controls rather than a custom imitation.
How we tested it
The site was checked at 320, 375, 768, 1024 and 1440 pixels wide, at 100% and 400% zoom, with and without JavaScript, and with an automated contrast test on every colour pairing.
Still to be done before we call this complete
- Testing with NVDA, JAWS and VoiceOver by someone who uses them daily
- An independent audit against WCAG 2.2 AA, not yet commissioned
- Testing with people who match the audience for this page
Until those are finished, we describe this site as believed to meet WCAG 2.2 AA, not yet independently verified. We would rather say that than claim more than we can show.

This website is run by a private company rather than a public body, so the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) Accessibility Regulations 2018 do not apply to it. Our duty to make reasonable adjustments comes from the Equality Act 2010, and that applies regardless.
